MIK is AFK

Heya, Mik here with a public service announcement. I'm headed off on a bit of a MUCH NEEDED vacation with the fam to the big apple. It should be a lot of fun, and we'll be staying with my 'retired gamer' buddy and his family. To that end, I see a lot of late night XBox and probably a good dose or two of something like Dominion, I may even take some Song of Blades along, but all that's in addition to the family plans and sightseeing!

I've been up there a few times, so I've got most of the 'tourist' stuff out of the way (including a tour to the top of one of the trade towers in the late nineties) but we still have some "core" stuff lined up; Times Square, Central Park, the all-Peanut Butter restaurant, Broadway Show, Museum of Natural History, the GW store, a cool anime/toy store in China Town, the big ole Toys R Us, Carnegie Deli, the list goes on and on. Sadly, my daughter is somewhat apprehensive about Times Square because of the failed car-bomb attempt not too long ago. It sucks that seven year olds are even thinking about such things, that's the new culture I guess.

Don't worry, I've got the blog here queued up and good to go for the next week or so. The only catch is that I'm not going to be quite as attentive as I usually am. I'll reply to comments as time allows, or just do them all at once when I get back, keep 'em coming though! As the title states "I'll be back". I don't know how much free time I'll have, but if any readers are in the neighborhood, email me and we'll try to go grab a pint one evening. Rock on...

  4. Club sandwich at the Carnegie, the thing is the size of your head! Have fun man. Also tell your daughter that if they stop you doing what you want to do, they win. Go to Times Square, look at the lights and remember that it is still there, and so are you.

  7. Don't worry about times square, the Emperor protects!

Just teach your daughter this friendly mantra to put her at ease,

"My armor is contempt; My shield is disgust; My sword is Hatred; Let none survive."

  9. Holy crap guys, this is why I love doing this. This was just a public service announcement, I had no idea I'd get so many well-wishers, thank you!

It is because of you guys (and girls!) that I've lined up all kinds of posts to occupy the time while I'm away, good stuff ready to roll too!

Thanks for the extra sightseeing suggestions too, as well as the tips on Times Square and how to handle it. The Emperor protects indeed!

  10. Dunno if you've already arrived, but check out the Compleat Strategist on 33rd street off 6th avenue (near the Empire State Building). Pretty much the only place to get your game on in all of Manhattan.

On Saturdays, the Warmongers are downstairs rocking games. First time is free from what I understand. :)

  11. Tomorrow's our first day in 'the city', and the Compleat Strategist is now on our list! I hope they're doing free rpg day so I can score a Deathwatch module!

    Thanks for the tip!
