Chaos Pact; Small, Medium, and Large

I finished up some of my non-human players on the Blood Gryphons. They seem pretty glossy because I haven't Dull Coted them yet, the weather in my neck of the woods has been about ninety-five degrees every day with about 90% humidity...not good sealing weather. Since my Blood Bowl figs see the most (and roughest) action, I really varnish them down to protect them. Once the Dull Cote goes on they're good to go.

Confrontation in Kustaa

The town of Kustaa sits on the southeastern edge of the Livwald Forest

The other night we were able to play a little Song of Blades and Heroes, and it was quite a blast. Prep time was minimal and the rules were very easy to pick up; being my first time to play. We fought a three-way battle with the game objective being that of a 'king of the hill' situation, but instead we used one of Andy's craters for the 'hill'. I used my Wood Elf band, Andy went with his Djedetians, and Chri3 fielded Nezumi (Skaven).

Lady Talon's Livwald Delegation was in Kustaa...

...as were the minions of Djedet

Lady Talon and her Wood Elf Companion defeat Magus Skulk...

...and in short order, his Rat Ogre bodyguard, Kingsley

Djedetian monsters attack the Tree Man in the streets...

...and with support from their masters, slay him

The sultry Sylph and giant hornet outflank the Djedetians

The Elves brace for a fly-by attack from the giant bat...

...who is subsequently laid low by their steel and magic

The Livwald Delegation bravely hold their ground, surrounded by foes

Lady Talon's life force was crushed by the mandibles of the giant scarab

The Nezumi attack the giant scorpion en masse, scoring a victory

The last seen of the lone Wood Elf Warrior was the flash of his twin blades as he cut a swath through the ranks of the Nezumi. He would fall later in the battle. The Livwald Delegation was wiped out, every last one, and what Nezumi managed to survive, fled from Kustaa and into the woods beyond the town's perimeter. Although the giant monsters (bat, scorpion, and scarab) were all killed, the Djedetians' mage-leader still lived, as did his bodyguard. Their stone golem was too slow to ever see combat, but it didn't matter. With the Elven host slaughtered, and the Nezumi fleeing in fear, the Djedetians clearly held the higher ground, err, crater in this case and were the victors of the confrontation.

I've gotta say, these SBH rules were very easy to hit the ground running with. The game moved at a quick pace, and nothing seemed too out-of-whack or unbalanced. The turn sequence was kind of neat too, and made for some tension to see if all of your forces would get to go or not (if they roll too many failures your turn ends immediately). I thought the magic was a little weak sauce at first, but it grew on me, I'll have to play it some more to really see. Overall the game had that elusive "fun" factor that's been rumored to exist.

Magus Skulk's Host

A 300 point band for Song of Blades and Heroes
Ratman Wizard: Q3+, C1 w/ fearless, magic-user (46pts)
x8 Ratman Scouts: Q4+, C2 w/ gregarious, stealth (192pts)
Rat Ogre (Troll): Q5+, C4 w/ tough, fearless, big (41pts)
Giant Rat (Frog): Q3+, C2 w/ amphibious, animal (2opts)
Total: 299 / 300

Magus Skulk, a Nezumi sorcerer who had long ago lost most of his sanity due to overindulgence in Witch-Weed, leads a vicious band of Nezumi across Sarterra. He is unpredictable, and still boasts his arcane prowess making him dangerous. He wears an arcanik contraption that filters Witch-Weed vapors directly to him through a re-breather from a boiler backpack that slow burns the narcotic substance. His actions are allegedly determined by the visions he receives from the vapors themselves, which guide his path and destiny.

No one knows what manner of creature Kingsley is, though he resembles a giant Nezumi with massive strength. Some believe he is the result of an experiment done on a regular Nezumi at the hands of Skulk. His loyalty to Skulk is unwavering, and he stands guard over the unconscious Skulk when his master has overindulged in Witch-Weed.

A giant, plague-ridden rat accompanies the troupe, living off the scraps thrown to it at night by the host, and the corpses of the fallen after a battle. Sharing a distant bloodline with the Nezumi, it shows no hostility or aggression towards its upright brethren. Note: I had to use 'giant frog' stats because I couldn't find 'giant rat' stats. I figure I can explain the "amphibious" ability easily enough...he's a sewer rat!

As a side note, I love this model! My ten year old niece painted this figure just for me and gave it to me on my birthday this last summer. It doesn't get any better than that, though I do need to teach her about sealing her models! Anyway, she totally surprised me with this, and I told her I would use it in a game as soon as I could, so thanks again Piper!

Life is short and cheap in the ranks of Magus Skulk's host. The bulk of his band consists of these Nezumi, armed with shields and spears. These scouts move with surprising stealth and their appetites can be great. Not only do they get an above average amount of loot from their battles, once per cycle Magus Skulk holds ceremony where all those in his band take part in a shared Witch-Weed induced vision quest which can last for days.
