Thor's Day Hero: Ridley Scott

We didn't want Wes Anderson getting too comfy as the only filmmaker on the roster, so enter the magnanimous Ridley Scott. This is a dangerous precipice that I'm treading on however, I've got Scott in here because a bulk of his movies (most of them science fiction) just blow me away, but he's not even the greatest sci-fi visionary that comes to mind. Unlike Kubrick, Gilliam, Tarkovsky, and the like however, Scott gets the call. I could say there can be only one, but I'm making the rules here and we already added Anderson a while back. Welcome aboard Ridley, oh, and for those keeping score, here's some of my favorites:
  • Alien
  • Blade Runner
  • Black Rain
  • Gladiator
  • Black Hawk Down
  • Kingdom of Heaven

  1. Ridley is fantastic-and despite all the haters, I LOVED Prometheus. Did it have some plot holes? Yup but it was far superior to Smurfs in Space (avatar) in every way. 3D was better, story was better, acting was better. Ridley Scott is a GREAT pick Mik!

  2. If you haven't seen the Directors Cut of both Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven, you must. They really make a difference, and in the case of Kingdom, a totally different movie. Whole character's along with other character's motivations got cut.Now they all make sense.

    1. I did see the director's cut of Gladiator, and yeah, it made an already great move even better. Gotta be honest, Kingdom of Heaven doesn't rate up their among my Scott faves, but then again I haven't seen the director's cut which I will have to remedy soon.
