Come on, CMoN!

giganticdark's amazing Ultramarine

Well, if ever one needed to be taken down a notch or two in the self-esteem department, they should go no further than the miniatures showcase site, Cool Mini or Not. That's the very thing that I did recently. Lately I've found that painting to be less of a chore, and I'm finding I'm starting to actually like it. After years of being content with tabletop quality though, it's hard to bump it up a notch nowadays.

As you can tell from the above pic, there's no shortage of inspiring works to be had. I've also submitted all the works I've done that I've got pictures of; from terrain, to squads, to single figs. I know they're not the greatest, but man, that voting system can be brutal, haha. So head over to my new CMoN gallery and check it out, citizens!

  1. I don't really post my stuff to CMoN, mainly because I don't anxiously await a kick in the nuts upon finishing a paint job that I'm happy with. haha.

  2. Lol! You could NOT have put it any better than that. I guess I'm a sucker for punishment, and it's partly my fault, I shoot for solid tabletop quality 90% of the time, so you get what you get I guess. But to see that rare figure of mine on occasion that I dare even think could be "the best one I've ever done" get absolutely lambasted, haha, well, there's your proverbial kick in the nuts.

  3. What scale is that in? Is it 25 mm or Inquisitor scale? Very nice but reminds me that a golden daemon article I saw said the guy put 100 hours into the mini. That is like 5-6 months of the total hobby time I have were I can be painting, assembling, and playing.

  4. It says it's 1/15 scale, of course my translation powers fail me as to what that is in millimeters. I can't fathom spending that much time on painting a single miniature. Obviously the time investment shows, and is amazing, but like you said; how many games, how much terrain, etc. could I get done with that kind of hobby time. I guess that's the distinction between 'hobby' and 'art'?

  5. If you want to feel a bit better about your minis, post them on www.paintitsu.com new site but a much more supportive community than CMoN

  7. 1/15 scale makes it probably about 125-150 mm so you are talking 5-6 times larger than a normal game marine.

  8. The model was based off of the Limited Edition large-scale Space Marine model produced by Forgeworld. You can see it here. You'll notice he chopped it up to swap the stance, added a banner, and some other bobs. Don't know where he got the face from...

  9. The face was carved from the cloud of pure awesomeness that surrounds him.
