Retribution Personalities

Dawnlord Vyros
Dawnlord Vyros views the military might of the new Retribution as a sword in his hands, one sufficient to sunder any obstacle. He has the loyalty of the Dawnguard and the volunteered assets of dozens of other houses. The dawnlord has a reputation as a bold and forthright general who leads by example. Even pursuits such as falconry Vyros extends to applications in war, linking his mind to his hawk’s to look down from above and survey the battlefield.
This is the central figure from the cover art I showed not too long ago, and apparently the leader of the faction. I must admit, although it is still a cool looking figure, there's a good deal lost in the translation from print to model. There's still a lot of good details kept that makes me like it; the eyepatch, the falcon, the bulky sci-fiesque armor, and even the sword. I'm not sold 100% on the last part, but it is certainly interesting.

Dawnguard
The legendary Dawnguard have ever defended the security of Ios by eliminating threats to the kingdom as soon as they are identified.
I've gotta hand it to Privateer, they are good about generating buzz, and by releasing a lot of design sketches, they're doing exactly that. This sketch kind of makes the figure look like a beefed up character sketch from a newer Disney movie though. The heavy, smooth armor is nice, but the sword is the scene stealer. It's not too hard to notice the trigger on the handle and the telltale sign of a revolving cylinder in the hilt.

Kaelyssa, Night's Whisper
Kaelyssa is the foremost strike force commander of the Retribution’s mage hunters. Her sergeants claim she can hear the heartbeats of the enemy and taste their movements on the wind. Those wizards caught in her sights are left defenseless as their own magic is negated or turned against them. To Kaelyssa her calling is a dangerous but thrilling endeavor, and with every mission she extends the depths of her formidable talents.
Of all the figures previewed, this one excites me the most. Even if we don't get into WMmkII, and even if I don't decide to paint up a faction for the "heck of it", I might have to pick up this figure regardless. I like female models that look tough and as cliche' as the goggles on the head are, it's a nice touch. The nicest touch, again, is in the weaponry, and if you look closely, that's no repeating crossbow she has, it's a "rapid fire arrow rifle". In fact, given the clam shell front barrel design, it's downright science fiction, see the ZF-1 below.

All in all, these are exciting figs, and for a new faction which is far and few between for WM. I can see where some gamers who want to keep their fantasy and steampunk "pure" and may not cotton to these Elven high-tech ways, but given Cygnar's storm technology, and the general arcanika involved in making Warjack cortices, I'd say these guys will be different enough to off variety, but still be able to fit in the overall Iron Kingdoms.

EDIT: Bah! I don't know why these links are dead...grrrr!

  1. I'm sorry, but from that angle, it looks like he has Scrat from Ice Age on his arm.
