Blogger Follower Help?

I need a little help in the 'followers' department from whoever is proficient in Blogger. I've searched and come up with similar problems on forums, but none of the solutions seem to work for my particular problem.

My Blogger profile, the one you see over on the right, is Gyro. It's got all my personal info, the blogs I'm a part of, and my cool zombie-victim avatar pic. When I'm a follower of someone's blog, let's say my buddy Flounder's Imaginary Lives, you can see my little icon in his followers collection. In the blogroll from the Blogger dashboard I can see his updates whenever he posts stuff.

It used to be all I had to do was click 'follow' on someone's blog, my zombie-victim icon and name 'Gyro' show up, I click confirm or whatever, then the new blog is now in my blogroll, and Bob's your uncle. Now however, when I click follow on someone's blog I get nothing that comes up other than a 'follow' button. No 'Gyro', no zombie-victim avatar, nothing. Sometimes the avatar is blank and instead of 'Gyro' it just says 'Mik'. I do all kinds of stuff; log in as a different user, log in through a different service, but no matter what I do, zombie-victim avatar and the name 'Gyro' refuse to make an appearance.

Take the blog 4-Ones by Big Bad Garou. He started following my blog here, I checked out his blog and it looked cool, so I clicked follow on his. But no, I'm a grayed-out avatar pic, and when you click on it there is zero profile information like my own links or whatever.

The kicker is, the blogs I do follow in this "anonymous" manner, such as Frank's Gaming World, still show up in my blogroll with all the others signed up for originally by "Gyro". Technically I'm not missing any content from new blogs I join, but on the other hand, I don't want to follow all new blogs from here on anonymously either.

Has this happened to anyone? Any suggestions? Tips that work? Thanks...

  1. Actually, if you go to dashboard, you can click, 'Manage my blogs' and it lets you edit how your information appears on blogs, and I beleive, the info that appears when someone clicks the icon. That's how I update my picture and links there.

  2. Hope that helps! I had a similar, though not identical problem a few weeks ago.

  3. I started having that same problem, too, just today.

  4. @CFett: Thanks for jumping in. I get the "Currently using your Blogger profile" when I go under 'manage' in the dashboard. Funny thing is, when I leave comments, everything is cool (as you can see here). The manage tab may have worked before, but I've got no luck with it now.

@Christian: Methinks Blogger has tinkered around a bit with their settings, much to the chagrin of us loyal users!

  5. I haven't noticed anything different myself (I just went to follow 4 Ones to see if I got the same issue) did you follow publicly or privately?

Also my follow profile pulls the info from google not from blogger. Has yours changed to go through a different service?

  6. You can also start following a blog from your blogger dashboard - obviously it's less straight-forward in that you have to manually grab the url...

  7. Hey Gyro, this sounds to me like it may be an issue where blogger thinks you have multiple accounts and is selecting the wrong account for you... are you signed into any other google services when you are doing this in other tabs of the same window? Could it accidentally be using a LiveJournal login, AIM, Wordpress, OpenID, Typepad or something like that?

  8. @Lord Shaper: It seems sometimes it does pull from Google instead of Blogger. However when I click the 'switch profiles' button and log in under my Blogger info, I still get nothing.

@Donogh: Great advice, I did that, it looked promising, but nope. It asked if I wanted to follow publicly as "Gyro", and I thought 'great!' but I'm still a grayed-out, profile-less icon on whatever site I end up on.

@Raggy: Yeah, that's exactly what's going on, but no matter how much 'switching' I do...arrrgh! I give up.

  9. Hey Gyro,
Is there a web browser you have on your PC that you never use (IE maybe?) If so you can use that as a dedicated log in. The other solution is to wipe all saved data for the browser (passwords cookies, cache, the works) and start over... Pain in the ass but it is the best I can think of!

  10. Dang!
It doesn't make much sense but does this discussion help any?

  11. @Raggy: I get the same results from either laptop at home, or from the work computer (where I am now). I also cleared out all my saved stuff...to no avail, and even downloaded a browser just to test it and nothing.

  12. Bummer, well that's me out of ideas, sorry dude!

  13. @Donogh: That link is pretty much exactly what is happening. Apparently the 'go under "manage" and edit setting' option is no longer a working one, or at least doesn't work in my case.

  14. @Ragados: I can't thank you (and everybody!) for the help and suggestions. I tried them all and more.

Funny thing is, on the recent blogs I follow (and end up being an anonymous shadow) I can comment like here, full profile and everything. When I "unlink" my user profile I am still an almost-anonymous shadow head with no profile, but at least it says 'Gyro'.

I'm thinking something has changed recently between the Blogger/Google settings and they're not exactly that quick to fix it.

Remember the old days when we didn't have to edit the HTML in our posts to get the photos to size right?

  15. Exact same thing has happened to me this week and cannot find a solution either.

  16. I don't want to say that makes me feel good, but at least I know I'm not crazy. Misery loves company...

  17. A little update; whatever the issue was it appears it's been fixed. Going to some of the blogs I signed up on where I was having trouble, I'm now in the regular order with full profile icon and what-not instead of listed as anonymous at the end like I was. I didn't go back and change anything, so methinks the problem was elsewhere.

Thanks again for all the tips!
