Thor's Day Hero: Thundarr the Barbarian
I can't help but smile every time I see an episode of Thundarr the Barbarian. It was 1980, I was a mere six years old, and where most parents would shield the fragile eyes of their children from what was once billed "the most violent cartoon on television", my folks were fans.
This was my first foray into the awesome world of the post-Apocalypse, and it still holds its own today. Ruined, recognizable landmarks and buildings, "super-science", and barbaric violence against various robots, mutants, and plant critters. A few years later I would discover Gamma World, and that's when I had my giant "aha" moment connecting the two.

Thundarr was an awesome cartoon and I too was and continue to be influenced by it, both in my gaming and other aspects of my hobby and art.
ReplyDeleteIt kind of had everything going for it, I am surprised someone hasn't tried to re-vamp it ala Thundercats or whatever.

DeleteI really enjoyed this as a kid too (I'm 2 years older than you) but haven't seen it since then. My next favorite would have been the Herculoids.
ReplyDeleteI got the series DVD of Thundarr for Christmas and watched the whole thing again with my daughter, very cool stuff and lots of rpg story nuggets hidden within. I probably would live the Herculoids just as much but I didn't see them as often.
