Thor's Day Hero: Dr. Rodney McKay

Stargate's Dr. Rodney McKay is the last person I'd thought I'd ever induct into Thor's Day Heroes. He's arrogant, obnoxious, condescending, sarcastic, and even a hypochondriac. Not only does he not know how to fight (or shoot a gun) but his combat skills are atrocious; an example would be him running blindly away from the enemy, while screaming, firing his sidearm off-handed in random directions behind him. He's not on the team for his combat or social skills however, he is a certified super-genius. Having super-genius smarts is a good thing when you're in a new galaxy surrounded by hostiles.

Something happened about halfway through the Stargate Atlantis series, this punk of a character was really developing and all for the better. A few incredibly close brushes with death opened his eyes for sure and on more than one occasion he sought atonement from those he had always been a jerk to. In fact, ole Dr. McKay really turns it around and by the end of the series he became one of my favorite characters of the show. I guess if that's not a good enough reason to be a member of the Thor's Day Heroes, nothing is. Welcome aboard Rodney, you'll like it here, we even have a Mensa chapter.

    1. To be fair I haven't seen a single episode of the long running SG1, which is where he started out in apparently. Atlantis was fun though. SGU on the other hand was amazing, and far enough removed from the Stargate canon that you might dig it even given your aversion.

    1. I have yet to even glance in the general direction of Dr. Who. I know when I do it will all be over, so with much self control I have been able to avoid it...so far.
