Lots of great stuff in today's photos. Being an avid comic collector kind of went with being an avid toy collector too. I wasn't a "mint in the box" kind of guy either, toys are meant to be played with!
A lot of what you see below are toys that I've had for a very long time, +35 years in some cases, so I count myself lucky to have been able to hang in to these.
Some are rare collector's items while others are here just because I personally get a kick out of them for one reason or another. Suffice it to say, the bulk of these are all related to very find childhood memories playing in the dirt in the backyard or going on missions across the bookshelf.
I could list all the toys, but I'll leave that to you guys for the comments, since that interaction is what I love best about this blog. Until next time, enjoy!
Last photo, guy in yellow... I totally have him! What is he from?
ReplyDeleteSo funny, I get more comments on him than anything else here! He's Fisher-Price, late 70's/early 80's. He was a helicopter pilot for this cool, white helicopter that had rescue 'pincers' underneath that could pick up objects. I think he had a pilot buddy.
DeleteI believe he was branded as part of "The Adventure People"
DeleteThat he was!
DeleteThrough the course of my life, I have done several "Nerd Purges" which were neccesarry and useful at the time, but have left me bereft of all the cool shit I used to own. It's also a little dizzying to think about how much nerd stuff I would have amassed if I kept it all... Your photos are showing me what it might have been like ;)
ReplyDeleteSadly I've been in the same boat, just not nearly as often it seems. Like you say, rational and necessary at the time, but now looking back, I am really kicking myself. I guess my biggest lament is selling off my GIJoe collection en masse, I'll probably never have that complete of a collection again. Some stuff is just gone and lost to the decades, but a lot of it I am glad to have stowed away.
DeleteWow, a very nice looking blue snaggletooth there. I had all those star trek figures with the fabric uniforms, along with the enterprise bridge with the rotating door transporter (ooo! where did he go?!) I also had one of those wind up robots in pic#2 that I just adored for no good reason. Other than that these are mostly a little after my time. The only really old toy I've kept from time immemorial is my die-cast star destroyer about c. 1979 with the little plastic corvette that gets captured.
ReplyDeleteHeya Mike, thanks! I have a very distinct memory when I was a kid and seeing my first blue snaggletooth, funny how that stuff stays with you. Those wind-up robots are surprisingly dispersed out there, and I like you, I absolutely have always loved mine. Last time I was at a con I saw a bunch on a shelf going for about fifty bucks each to boot, not that I would ever part with mine. Sounds like you've got about a decade on me, most of the Mego Star Trek dolls were on they're way out as I was getting into this stuff. I still have that Star Destroyer too, WITH the corvette! Though one of the "balls" has broken off the topside.
